This is the 2020 Toyota Corolla, caught while testing in Ann Arbor. The new Corolla will ride on the new TNGA modular platform that Toyota has put under the Prius and Camry already.
Styling should reflect recent Toyota trends, and therefore be mostly evolutionary. Size will also stay to current levels.
Inside, however, there will be a more prominent screen and new controls intended to elevate perceived quality, a shortcoming on the current car. But aside from some driver assistance features, US-market cars are unlikely to boast major technological advances in order to keep costs down.
Power is expected to still come from Toyota's 1.8-litre petrol engine. A hybrid is assured for other markets. A new CVT could also be offered to provide an improved ratio spread.
Corollas that were initially expected to come from Mexico will now be sourced from Mississippi and a new plant in Alabama. Mazda will also share capacity at the new Alabama plant (just recently confirmed).
