The seventh generation Hyundai Sonata has been on sale since 2014 but has featured the same greenhouse and door cuts since its complete overhaul in 2011. For 2020, the Sonata will go back under the knife and receive an all new look, although we are expecting it to be more of an evolutionary look.
This prototype was caught in the company of the Camry, the Accord and the Malibu, so we are hoping for the best from Hyundai. The seventh-generation Sonata didn't quite meet the sales expectations despite its big improvements in driving feel, technology, and refinement.Â
The current Sonata (not including hybrid) offers three different 4-cylinder engines (1.6 turbo, 2.0 turbo, 2.4) while being mated to three different automatic transmissions. Powertrain for the 2020 model is still unknown, but we would expect the 2.0 turbo to soldier on since it was just added for the 2018 MY.Â
An official debut will likely take place sometime in early 2019, with an on-sale date later in the year.
