Honda has introduced the updated CR-V for the US market where it becomes the third vehicle to get a hybrid powertrain after the Accord and Insight. The mid-life update also has subtle cosmetic tweaks along with added features inside the cabin.
The Japanese CUV gets a mildly redesigned fascia where the bumper, fog-lamps, and chrome slats have been reworked while the headlamps and taillamps get a dark tint finish. The newly designed 19-inch wheels also gel well with the overall design of the CR-V and Honda is also offering three new body colours as a part of the update.
On the inside, there’s a new push-button gear selector flanked by buttons for driving modes. The CR-V hybrid models also received a new deceleration selector paddles on the steering wheel. Honda says that by clicking the left paddle on the steering, drivers can increase the amount of regenerative braking from the hybrid system's electric motor.
In terms of features, there’s TFT driver-information interface (DII) centre meter display, a seven-inch touchscreen with smartphone connectivity and Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System. Also available are remote engine start, dual-zone climate control, an Electric Parking Brake (EPB), rear USB charging ports, front passenger seat with 4-way power adjustment, driver's seat with 8-way power adjustment and 4-way power lumbar support, and heated front seats.
Under the hood of the CR-V Hybrid is Honda’s two-motor hybrid powertrain, which also powers the Accord Hybrid. This system combines two electric motors with a 2.0-litre petrol engine with a combined output of 210bhp sent to all four wheels. Honda claims a fuel economy figure of 42 mpg (around 18kmpl). The standard versions get the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol which puts out 190bhp mated to a CVT with optional AWD.
The 2020 CR-V will go on sale in the US market next year. Similar updates are expected for the India-spec CR-V when it receives its mid-life update in the country.
