Volkswagen Motorsports India has commenced the driver’s registration process for the 2019 season of the Ameo Cup. This is the 10th edition of Volkswagen Motorsport India’s touring race car series and the third edition of the Ameo Cup Series. The registered candidates will be put through a special selection round at the Indi Karting Track, in Pune. The last date for registration is 3 February 2018.
Volkswagen’s one-make championship is a part of the MMSC-FMSCI Indian National Racing Championship. As was the case last year, the 2019 season too will be held across all the racetracks in the country, namely - the Madras Motor Race Track in Chennai, Kari Motor Speedway of Coimbatore and the nation’s only F1 racetrack, the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida.
Last season, the Ameo Cup witnessed 20 drivers participate in the grid including two female drivers. The 2018 season of the Ameo Cup spanned over 10 races over across race weekends extending over five months.
The Ameo Race Car packs in a 1.8-litre turbocharged powerplant from the GTI. The screaming four-banger produces 205bhp at 6100 rpm and 320Nm between 3200-4600rpm. That is way beyond the standard GTI. The engine is mated to a 3MO sourced six-speed sequential gearbox with steering-mounted paddle shifters. We had driven the actual race car last year and you can read all about it over here.
