- Will be offered with hybrid power in select markets
- India could be on the cards as well
Toyota has already revealed the new Corolla and we had spoken about the hybrid coming as well. The car has finally been revealed. The hybrid sedan will pair a 1.8-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with two electric motor/generators, sending drive to the front wheels through an electronically-controlled continuously-variable transmission (e-CVT). A combined power output of 121bhp is mentioned, though a system torque figure isn't specified. The petrol engine makes 96.5bhp/142Nm, while the main drive motor makes 71bhp/163Nm.
The car will feature plenty of standard kit like autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop/go, lane-keeping assist, auto high-beam, a rear-view camera, along with seven airbags. This will also be the first time that the Corolla will be available in the US market as a hybrid. The Indian market already has the Prius and the Camry Hybrid on sale and it’s a strong possibility that the Corolla hybrid could make it on to our shores as well.
