Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the new big WagonR in India on January 23. The carmaker has been giving out teasers but has not yet officially unveiled the vehicle. However, we now have images of the new hatchback that gets a complete new makeover setting it apart from the current WagonR. Let's take a look at its picture gallery giving out all the details.
Now the new WagonR is based on the fifth-gen Heartect platform, which underpins the Swift, Baleno, Dzire and even the Ertiga.
It’s christened as the 'Big new WagonR' and in comparison to the outgoing model it's 19mm longer, 145mm wider, 5mm taller and has a wheelbase of 2,435mm, which again is 35mm more.
Thanks to the new design language, the hatchback gets a refreshed set of sweptback headlamps and a new front bumper with an updated fog lamp housing.
Another highlight is the new grille design with a single chrome strip at its centre. It is tastefully done with contrasting chrome and black elements.
Round at the back, the car sports new vertical tail lamps but the overall design remains to be evolutionary with the recognisable traits intact.
The WagonR will get a new set of features including electrically adjustable mirrors, power windows, manual air conditioning and rear parking sensors as standard.Â
Inside, there's a dual-tone cabin, a multifunction steering wheel, 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a driver airbag as standard amongst other in the long list of features.
The car is more spacious than the previous model and gets many more safety features like ABS with EBD, front seat belts reminder, speed alert system and an optional passenger airbag too.
Engine options include the 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine (67bhp, 90Nm) and a larger 1.2-litre petrol, which is a four-cylinder unit producing 89bhp and 113Nm of torque.
Both engines will come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. In addition and as an option, the mid and top-spec trims will also get Maruti Suzuki's AGS (Auto Gear Shift) automatic transmission.
