The country’s largest car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki has kick-started 2019 on a positive note with the launch of the new Maruti Suzuki Wagon R in India. The new-generation model is based on the Heartec platform and now offers more space and features over its predecessor. The new model is available with two engine options - 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre petrol engines. Both can be had with a five-speed manual and AMT options. The 1.0-litre variant is available in LXI and VXI trims while the 1.2-litre option is available in VXI and ZXI trims.
The entry-level LXI variant is available only with a 1.0-litre engine option. Priced at Rs 4.19 lakhs, customers can also opt for the Tiago XE variant which is priced at Rs 4.14 lakhs. The Tiago from Tata is powered by a larger 1.2-litre petrol engine and comes with modest set of features such as driver seat height adjustment, driver seatbelt reminder, adjustable front headrests, dual front airbags, premium full fabric seat upholstery and seatbelt with pre-tensioners and load limiters, and more.
Moving a step ahead, the Wagon R VXI variant is available in both 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre engine options, priced at Rs 4.49 lakhs and 4.89 lakhs, respectively. At this price, one can get Tiago XE diesel variant or a six-seater Mahindra KUV100 NXT K2 base variant. The KUV100 NXT from Mahindra is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine and offers an add-on benefit of having an additional passenger over the regular five-seat format. Maruti Suzuki VXI can also be had with an AMT option mated to a 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre engine options. Priced at Rs 5.16 lakhs and 5.36 lakhs respectively, customers can also opt for entry-level Hyundai Grand i10 Era, Tiago petrol XTA or the entry level Tigor XE in petrol.
The ZXI variant is available only with a 1.2-litre engine in both manual and AMT options. The manual variant is available for Rs 5.22 lakhs, while the AMT option is priced at 5.69 lakhs. At this price, customers can opt from the Grand i10 Magna petrol, Tigor XM petrol and the KUV100 NXT K4 variant. At this price, customers can also opt for the top spec Hyundai Santro Sportz CNG variant. For those willing to stretch a bit more, they can also opt for the entry level variant of the Ford Figo or the Volkswagen Polo.
