2019 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R launched at Rs 4.19 lakhs

> Based on the Heartect platform which also underpins the Swift, Baleno, Dzire and Ertiga
> Available with 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre petrol engines; both get 5 speed manual/AMT options

After numerous teasers, spy shots and rumours, Maruti has finally lifted the wraps off its 2019 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, which has just been launched in India at Rs 4.19 lakhs (ex-showroom).

The new Wagon R will, for the first time, have two engine options. This includes the existing 1.0-litre 67bhp/90Nm three-cylinder engine, and the larger 1.2-litre 82bhp/113Nm four-cylinder petrol motor from the Swift and the Ignis. Both engines will be available in five-speed manual and AMT gearbox options.

Furthermore, while the LXi variant will only be available with a manual gearbox on the 1.0-litre engine, the VXi will be offered with manual and AMT gearbox options on both the 1.0 and 1.2-litre engines. As for the ZXi, despite it getting both manual and AMT gearbox options, it will only be available with the 1.2-litre motor. For the record, the LXi variants will be offered with 13-inch wheels while the VXi and ZXi variants will get 14-inch wheels.

As for the interiors, the new Wagon R gets a dual-tone beige-brown theme with a new dashboard design. Highlights include a restyled instrument cluster, a high-placed large touchscreen, and a multifunction steering wheel. In terms of safety features, the new Wagon R will also offer driver airbag and ABS with EBD as standard.
Going forth, Maruti Suzuki’s new Wagon R will continue to lock horns with rivals such as the Datsun Go, Hyundai Santro, Maruti Celerio and Tata Tiago.
