The American manufacturer’s entry level SUV, the Jeep Renegade was spotted testing on Indian roads. Probably code named as 526, the Renegade is expected to be added to Jeep’s portfolio as the fifth product on offer.
The Renegade was launched in 2014 for the international market. However, the car spotted on test is speculated to be the facelift for the international model on sale. The Renegade is expected to be locally made at the FCA’s plant at Ranjangaon and the manufacturer may export the SUV to all Right hand drive markets - like its elder sibling, the Jeep Compass.
The spotted vehicle wears a heavy camouflage however the front end parades the vertically slatted grille and the round head lamps. The side displays the flared wheel arches, big door mirrors and roof rails to suit the likes of a robust SUV. The interior is expected to be restyled as a part of its midlife update.
Powering the updated Jeep Renegade could be the same 1.4-litre turbo petrol and a 2.4-litre turbo petrol engine from its predecessor. However the Renegade that is speculated for the Indian market could be offered with a diesel motor as well. Internationally the Jeep Renegade is offered with a six speed manual and a nine speed automatic gearbox and the transmission comes coupled to a four-wheel drive system, however, it seems too much to ask for the Indian market.
If spawned in India, the Jeep Renegade could rival against the Ford EcoSport, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and could also endanger some C segment sedans as the pricing is expected to be competitive.
