Ford is jumping big time on the SUV bandwagon and this time around it has taken the wraps off the Edge ST. In the normal scheme of things, the ST badge has always been reserved for Ford’s hot hatchbacks but with performance-oriented high riding models becoming the craze, this step was inevitable.
The ST in the Edge ST comes from the usual set of upgrades that one would expect when a manufacturer attempts to raise the status of a car. It´s got swanky bits like the dual squared exhausts tail pipes, massive five-spoke wheels, sporty grille and of course, the ST badges to tell you that you have paid extra for extra. Then there is also the signature blue and black paint scheme that Ford tends to put on its performance models that helps the car stand out from the stock Edge SUV.
Inside, you get everything that is offered on the top-of-the-line Edge, but now painted in ST themed sporty grey and black paint scheme. This means you get the Edge’s luxury package as well as a host of driver aids including a post collision braking system.
Powering the Edge ST is a 2.7-litre V6 mill that pumps out 335bhp/515Nm. This has been mated to an eight-speed AT and an AWD system as a part of the package. You get various drive modes including one called ST which makes the car fun to drive. However, the Drift mode found in the Focus RS has not been included and so if you want to go sideways, then it would have to be on your skills.
The Edge ST will get an official reveal at the 2018 Detroit Motor Show next week.
