The A7 is Audi’s take on the four-door coupe segment and the Sportback has been around for some time now. Currently, Audi is focusing on its flagship A8 saloon after which the A7 will receive a major facelift. The A8 saloon will make its debut at the forthcoming Geneva Motor Show.
Coming back to the new A7, here we have a rendering of the next-generation Sportback. The rendering is based on the spy shots of the car that has been spotted doing test rounds a few times now. The new-generation A7 will be heavily inspired by the Prologue Concept showcased at the 2014 Los Angeles Motor Show. As can be seen in the rendering, the prominent grille, sleeker headlamps and gaping air vents at the front, while smooth flowing roofline and the haunch crease are all cued from the Prologue Concept.
The new A7 Sportback will switch to the new MLB Evo platform which currently underpins the new A8 and A6. This will help the hefty Sportback to lose a considerable amount of weight making it faster with an improved handling. Expect the interior to be refreshed as well with Audi's Virtual Cockpit system making its debut. The engine options will remain the same as the current A7. But with the electrification push, we could expect the next-generation A7 to soon come with its very own ‘e-tron’ powerplant. After the launch of the A7, the S7 Sportback will join the family followed by the top-of-the-range RS7.
The A7 Sportback will continue to compete with the Mercedes-Benz CLS-class and the BMW 6-series Gran Coupe. Audi will unveil the new A7 only sometime next year.
