2018 Sao Paulo Motor Show: Preview

The 2018 Sao Paulo Motor Show is the biggest and most important motor show event of Latin America. It is a biennial event and is important to us since the Brazilian market shares its model similarities with the Indian car market. Most of the built-in India vehicles which are exported find their way to Brazil and sometimes vehicles which are India-bound are first showcased there and then brought to India. So, of all the information that we have so far, let us have a look at some of the important cars that will be coming to the 2018 Sao Paulo Motor Show. 

Hyundai Creta Diamond Edition

The Hyundai Creta Diamond is a special edition of the model with around 200 special changes. These additional styling and feature upgrades will include quilted leather seats, LED taillights, new blue colour, panoramic sunroof, rear spoiler, and more. It will be based on the top-spec Creta sold in Brazil which is the Prestige variant. A similar variant could come to India as well sometime next year. 

Volkswagen T-Cross

The India-bound T-Cross will make its first public debut at the Sao Paulo stage. It is the new baby SUV in the Volkswagen line-up and is India bound as well. But we presume that it will arrive as a sub-four metre rival to the Maruti Vitara Brezza and is expected to arrive only in 2021. Based on the new-gen Polo, the T-Cross is the most customizable, funky little SUV according to VW. 

Hyundai Saga Concept 

The Saga is an EV concept and is expected to be an i20-level SUV styled electric vehicle. The teaser image reveals a crossover-like design and wedge-like LED tail lamps. The other major take away from this car is that it is likely to debut a new design language for the latest generation of entry-level models from Hyundai. In the Indian context, this car is likely to showcase future design cues for the Grand i10 and Elite i20. 

Nissan Kicks Rhythm

The Kicks – which will be launched in India soon – will be making an appearance at the Brazilian show with a special Rhythm edition. Instead of the cosmetic changes, the Kicks Rhythm will have an enhanced music system created by Nissan Design Studio in Rio de Janeiro. There will be speakers integrated into the seat’s headrest and will provide a live show or even a movie theatre experience to the visitors at the Nissan booth.

Volkswagen Pickup Concept

Volkswagen has teased a new concept for the show which will be an entry-level pickup. This pick-up concept is positioned below the Amarok and will be based on the MQB platform with an all-wheel-drive layout. We presume it will be the pick-up version of the Tiguan, which too shares the same underpinning as the concept. Shortly after the concept, the production version is slated to hit the Brazilian market, promises VW. But according to them, the concept could conceivably be suitable for other markets as well. 

Fiat Toro SUV

Based on the Toro pick-up truck, Fiat will be introducing a full-size SUV at the Sao Paulo stage. The Toro could be a part of FCA’s plan to introduce a three-row SUV in the international markets. Although it will still be a concept, the showcar will preview a production-ready body of the SUV. It might also be rebadged under different FCA brand across different markets.
