Pictures of Renault’s Sport Megane have leaked ahead of its official reveal and unlike the earlier shots, this car was completely undisguised.
When the car is introduced, it will be available with four-wheel steering and two chassis options. While the standard variant will use a ‘Sport’ chassis which will be tuned for tarmac, a stiffer ‘Cup’ chassis will be more track-biased. Renault claims the four-wheel steering will be standard and they expect it to boost agility.
The new Megane RS will use a 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that will produce more than 300bhp. It is expected to get either a six-speed efficient dual clutch (EDC) transmission, or a manual gearbox depending on the market. The new car is expected to also shave a few milliseconds off the outgoing Megane RS’ clocked times. In fact, reports speculate that it will turn out to be quicker than the Honda Civic Type R.
Since the new Megane RS uses a wider track and sits lower by 25mm, it is going to grip the road a whole lot better that the outgoing model. Renault will probably unleash the next Megane RS on international roads sometime in 2018 after making a public appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.
