The Porsche Cayenne has had its fair share of upgrades though now there’s an all-new model in the making. The latter has been caught on test yet again, this time at the Nurburgring and is due for arrival sometime next year as the 2018 Cayenne.
Details on the next-gen Cayenne are still unknown. That said, one can expect this generation change to bring in a lot more excitement to the Cayenne range. The 2018 model, in fact, is being developed using the Volkswagen Group’s MLB SUV platform. The platform already underpins the latest-gen Audi Q7 which means Porsche’s iteration will make use of a blend of aluminium, carbon fibre and ultrahigh-strength steel. This will not only make the 2018 Cayenne lighter but also provide more rigidity compared to the existing model.
Porsche is expected to introduce some new engines, including the 4-litre V8 and 3.6-litre V8, as well as a turbocharged 2.9-litre V6. This next-gen model will also get a plug-in hybrid system with a 3-litre engine as the part of the powertrain. Besides these, there will be a range of diesel engine options for markets including India.
The current-gen Cayenne might be a bit too long in the tooth for some but there is no denying that it’s still doing well in the premium SUV segment. With the forthcoming 2018 model, Porsche is expected to offer more of the delightful blend of driving thrills and daily usability.
