Volkswagen has showcased a coupe SUV version of its Atlas 7-seater at the 2018 New York Auto Show. The production version of this car will spawn a mid-size five-seater vehicle that will be slotted between the Tiguan and the full size Atlas. As expected, it looks like the Atlas all the way to the C-pillar which gets a sharp rake angle thus giving the Atlas Cross its distinct identity. Also adding to the looks of the concept car are the heavily flared wheel arches and chunky rear-end with a single chrome strip running through the middle. The cabin is standard VW fare and in its production guise, the Atlas Cross will borrow much from the regular Atlas in terms of layout as well as features. This concept car makes use of petrol-powered 3.6-litre V6 motor and a hybrid system that has two electric motors. The total output is 310bhp with a 0-100kmph time of 6.5 seconds. You get various drive modes that make use of the hybrid setup in various combinations to provide motivation for the car. This car is underpinned by the MQB platform and this means it is likely to spawn a seven-seat model and possibly, at least one diesel. The Atlas as a product is unlikely to come to India as the place where it would be slotted in is already occupied by Audi badged models from the VW stable.
