Mercedes-AMG has completed the C63 family by unveiling the C63 S Coupe at the 2018 New York International Auto Show. The new and updated C63 S now comes with the characteristic Panamericana grille, slightly tweaked styling and an even more powerful V8 under the bulging hood.Â
The update reveals a new headlamp cluster but the most prominent update to the fascia comes in the form of the new air-vents. There are now aggressive diffusers at the back along with quad and trapezoidal tailpipes. Being the maniacal 63 variant, there are flared fenders on both the wheels that lend the car a wide-body stance. It is complemented by the AMG GT R styled wheels painted in tantalite grey with a high-sheen finish.
On the inside, there is a sporty upholstery combined with piano black finished trims. There is an optional fully digital instrument cluster as well with AMG-spec displays. The infotainment system has also been updated displaying a host of information. The steering wheel is new and the seats get additional climatised settings. Â
Under the hood is the same twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8. However, this time around it produces 469bhp in the C63 and 503bhp in the C63 S guise. The transmission is a nine-speed wet-clutch automatic replacing the old seven-speed unit. The performance figures remain the same as the coupe can sprint to a 100kmph in 3.9 seconds (4 seconds for C63) with an electronically limited top speed of 290kmh for the C63 S and 250kmph for the C63.
The new C63 family that comprises of the coupe, saloon, estate and cabriolet will go on sale early next year. Pricing will be revealed later this year.
