Last showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo event which was held in February, the second generation Mini Countryman has finally been launched in India at a starting price of Rs 34.90 lakhs (ex-showroom, all India). The vehicle is available in three trims - the Countryman Cooper S, Countryman Cooper SD and the Countryman S JCW Inspired. Interestingly, the car is locally assembled at the company’s facility in Chennai.
Under the hood, the Countryman Cooper S and S JCW Inspired get the 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine which generates 192bhp of power 280Nm of torque. On the other hand, the Countryman Cooper SD gets the 2.0-litre twin turbo four-cylinder engine that puts out 190bhp of power and 400Nm of torque. The 2018 model cars now come mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard as a replacement to the older six-speeder. The new triplets measure 20mm longer, 3cm wider and have a 7.5cm longer wheelbase than its predecessor.
For freshness, the latest of the Minis get new headlamps and a redesigned grille. As for the rear, it continues to feature the rectangular tail lamps and large chrome badging which has been carried forward from the older model. For those in love with the British green paint scheme with a white roof, mirror caps and hood stripes; it is offered as an option exclusively on the JCW Inspired version, and it goes without saying that this is indeed the loudest of the lot. The standard feature list includes a touchscreen system with signature chrome surrounds, steering mounted audio controls, black interiors, two-zone climate control and orange backlighting.
