-New generation for the G-Class in India
-4.0-litre twin-turbo V8
-CBU for India
Mercedes-Benz will launch its G63 AMG SUV for the Indian market tomorrow. It’s the second generation for the German automaker’s iconic SUV and given its status, they have played the evolutionary game to keep the ethos of the name plate going.
The G63 AMG retains all the hallmarks of the G-Class design, the primary one being the boxy old school SUV silhouette. But with this Mercedes-Benz has infused its new design elements like its grille design, LED head lamps, alloy wheel design and bumpers.
Retro may be the key outside, but inside its Mercedes going about business as usual. You get the dual digital displays for the instrument cluster as well as the infotainment screen (running Mercedes latest MBUX infotainment system), quilted leather seats and oodles of space all around thanks to the car growing in size over its predecessor.
Putting the 63 in the G63 is a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 576bhp/850Nm. The 4MATIC AWD system is standard while gearbox duties have been taken up by the German automakers nine-speed AT. The 0-100kmph is done and dusted in 4.4 seconds and then the car will go on to hit an electronically limited top speed of 220kmph.
It’s a CBU for India and is the only G-Class model on offer for the Indian market. We expect that Mercedes-Benz will price it around Rs 3 crores and this means, it is a price rival for the likes of Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, Porsche Cayenne Turbo, Lamborghini Urus, BMW X5 M and the Range Rover Sport.
