The 2018 Mercedes-Benz C-Class has been launched in India at Rs 40 lakhs (All-India ex-showroom). There’s only diesel power in two states of tune, six colour options and three trim packages- AMG, Prime and Progressive. This is a mid-life update for the entry-level sedan and has been done along the lines of the S-Class’MY 2018 updates.
Highlights of the exterior design language include a revised front bumper, a slightly larger front grille and the new headlamp layout. Since it is just a mid-life update, the overall layout remains unchanged. All the trim packages get xenon projectors in front and LED tail lamps at the rear as standard but can also be had with optional full LED headlamps. The interior layout remains unchanged but there’s a new infotainment system, 64 shade ambient lighting package, four types man-made leather upholstery as well as two wood trim options.
The only engine option is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit which can be had in the C220d or C300d state of tune. The former is good for 194bhp while the latter produces 245bhp/370Nm. Both engines are only offered with a 9G-Tronic transmission sending power to the rear wheels. There’s a whole host of safety and driver assistance options over the standard cars including park assist, pre-safe as well as pedestrian protection.
The C-Class competes with the Audi A4, BMW 3-Series and the Jaguar XE in the entry-level premium sedan segment.
