Maserati has launched the new and updated flagship Quattroporte in India. The 2018 Quattroporte is available in two trims – GTS GranLusso and GranSport – at an average price of Rs 2.7 crores (ex-showroom Delhi).
The revamped Quattroporte was showcased at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. Compared to the older 2013 model, the updated Italian saloon gets a new front bumper design, an edgier grille and sportier side skirts with new mirrors. The rear remains identical to the older car with blink-and-you-miss changes to the bumpers and tail light signature.
Of the two variants, the GranLusso trim is focused on luxury. There are subtle changes such as front spoiler, chrome bumper inserts, and GranLusso badges on the wings. It also gets a set of stylish 20-inch Mercurio light alloy wheels with brake callipers done in black. Whereas, the GranSport trim focuses on a dynamic styling with aerodynamic splitters coupled with front and side intakes. The rear spoiler and side inserts are finished in Black Piano. The GranSport trim can also be had with the optional Carbon Package. This features carbon finishing for the exterior door mirrors, door handles and B-pillar cover apart from a redesigned front bumper.
Under the sculpted hood of the new Quattroporte GTS is the same 3.8-litre turbocharged V8 engine. The Ferrari derived motor produces 530bhp of power at 6,800rpm and 710Nm of turning force accessible to the right foot between 2,250-3,500 rpm. Transmission is a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic sending power to the rear wheels. The exotic Italian saloon can do a 0-100kmph sprint in 4.7 seconds and power down to a top speed of 310kmph.
Feature-wise, the updated Quattroporte comes loaded with an 8.4inch Maserati Touch Control Plus (MTC+) infotainment system. The MTC+ features both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto mirroring functions, along with the Wi-Fi option. The car can be configured either with a 900-watt, 10-speaker Harman Kardon Premium Sound system or the new-gen Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound system with 15 speakers and a 1,280-watt amplifier as optional. The four-door Trident gets a stability programme, adaptive full LED headlights with glare-free high-beam assist, six airbags and active headrests as standard fitments.
The new 2018 Maserati Quattroporte GTS goes up against the likes of the Porsche Panamera and the Aston Martin Rapide as a fast saloon. However, the former is quite affordable and the latter is a lot expensive than the Italian. There are a few other sports cars like the Audi R8 or Mercedes-Benz AMG GT R that can be had at the price of the Quattroporte if you don’t want a massive SUV like the Mercedes-Benz G-Class or the Lexus LX at the price of the new Quattroporte in India.
