Following endless spy shots and speculations, Mahindra has finally launched the 2018 XUV500 in India at Rs 12.32 lakhs (ex-showroom Mumbai). The popular 7-seater SUV has been refreshed for this year with a bold new look, better interior quality and more equipment as standard compared to the outgoing car.

On the outside, a lot has changed. The front, for instance, gets a new grille and redesigned headlights with different detailing. The DRLs now sit on top of the headlights as opposed to the S shaped light guide that was etched within the headlight cluster in the old car. Around the sides you get diamond cut alloy wheels which improve the overall stance while the taillights are triangular in shape and extend towards the tailgate.
With the 2018 XUV500, Mahindra is looking to improve the perceived quality which is why the brand has heavily upgraded the look and finish of the materials. The car gets a soft-touch dashboard-top along with piano black finish on the dashboard. In terms of drivetrain, the XUV500 still gets the same 2.2-litre four cylinder diesel motor. However, the power output is slightly higher than before for better drivability. It has been increased from 140bhp/330Nm to 155bhp/360Nm. You can have this engine with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. There’s a petrol option, too which is a 2.2-litre unit producing 138bhp/320Nm and is offered only with a six-speed automatic.
Like before, the XUV500 will compete with a range of cars including the Hyundai Creta, Tata Hexa and entry level trims of the Jeep Compass and the Toyota Innova Crysta. You can also consider D-Segment sedans like the Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra and the Skoda Octavia.
