The annual American congregation of automotive ancillaries, aftermarkets and tuners has begun and the first of the big reveals has been the 2018 Jeep Wrangler. Though the public is yet to see it in person, official pictures have been released.
FCA has released only three pictures, featuring both, the close-top five-door Sahara and the open-top three-door Rubicon. The 2018 Wrangler has retained the iconic Jeep look with the signature vertically slatted grille and the round headlamps which get the modern LED DRLs and projector units now.
It still retains those typical floating wheel arches and the bonnet that is held down by the traditional hook clamps. The five-door Sahara comes with two seating rows and a hard top. The three-door Rubicon is all about freedom with even the doors coming off along with the folding windshield. Of-course it gets a roll-over bar to ensure occupant safety.
On the inside, the Wrangler has started catching up with the tech and now gets Chrysler’s latest Uconnect infotainment system along with an improved layout and ergonomics. The powertrains and further details will be revealed on 29 November at the Los Angeles Auto Show but the grapevine says it will get the 3.6-litre Pentastar along with the four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbo-petrol. You will have the option of choosing between a six-speed manual and an eight-speed automatic in either case.
Being a Wrangler, the car will have off-roading capabilities enough to put a rig to shame with its diff-locks and articulation. You also will have a great deal of options to upgrade the looks, interiors as well as the mechanicals to build the Wrangler to your exact tastes. So, we wait till 29 November to find out what is the 2018 Wrangler to look like in person.
