Hyundai is actively testing the 2018 Sonata, as seen in these new spy shots of the car being tested in Michigan. While the current model has been around for a couple of years, Hyundai is expected to roll out the 2018 Sonata in the US sometime next year.
One of the highlights of the 2018 model will be the addition of an 8-speed automatic gearbox to mainstream variants. The 8-speed unit is likely to give substantial improvements to performance and efficiency.
The previous upgrade for the Sonata received an underwhelming response and as a result, the car eventually lagged behind its rivals in the mid-size sedan segment. With this 2018 model, however, Hyundai is looking to give the Sonata a thorough refresh next year in order to spark new interest among buyers. The car isn’t expected to come to the Indian market anytime soon.
