Ford is tapping into its past to take itself to the future. Yes, it unveiled a Bullit themed Mustang (It’s the Steve McQueen headlining crime action flick’s 50th anniversary) and on the sidelines also announced that it is reviving the Mach 1 nameplate.
But wait…this time around, it is not going to be a legendary modified Mustang producing gazillion horse powers from a massive V8. Instead it is expected to be an electric performance SUV. Yes, the Mach 1 moniker will go down the same road as the Mitsubishi Eclipse but hopefully in a legendary name.
Lamenting history aside, the project will be under the guidance of Ford’s electric division, Team Edison, and will have battery electric vehicles underpinned by a unique platform. Lastly, we know that it will be built at Ford’s main plant in Detroit which we believe is being updated to build the electric cars of the future. The automaker has already said that it is going to build a hybrid Mustang in the future.
