The ZR1 has always been the full-blown, super quick version of the Corvette and now there’s an all-new one in the making. What you are looking at here is the 2018 Corvette ZR1 caught up close and personal.
This next-gen ZR1 is bound to return with more performance than previous one based on the C6. Power will come from a supercharged V8 developing around 700 horsepower. Interestingly, all of it will be routed through a manual gearbox. It's unlikely for the 10-speed automatic gearbox from the Z06 to feature on the ZR1.
Although the prototype seen here doesn't feature it, previous ones have been seen with a large rear spoiler, and there is evidence that an active aerodynamics package could be offered on the new ZR1 to keep its handling in check.
The 2018 ZR1 will be out sometime next year to soldier on for a few years until the next-gen Corvette comes along.
