BMW has launched the latest generation X3 in India at Rs 49.99 lakhs (ex-showroom, India). It’s available here in single two-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine and across two trim lines - xDrive 20d Expedition and xDrive 20d Luxury Line. The car was launched globally in the middle of 2017 and made its Indian debut at the 2018 Auto Expo in February.
The design for this third generation model is an evolutionary one where BMW has retained the essence of the X3 range, but modified specific elements to give the car a new look and also to bring it under their latest design umbrella.
Highlights of this third generation model include a larger kidney grille, lower roof line and full LED headlamps with a curved design as compared to the sharp look of the previous model. The car also moves to a new platform which allowed it to shed 55kgs over its predecessor.
It´s standard BMW fare inside the cabin and you get all the goodies and toys that one would expect from BMWs or even cars in this segment. Some of these include full digital instrument cluster, three-zone climate control, powered tail gate, Sat-Nav, ambient lighting and touchscreen for the iDrive system.
The BMW X3 is being offered in India with a two-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine that generates 187bhp of power and 400Nm of torque at 1,750-2,500rpm. Mated to an eight-speed Steptronic transmission, the car accelerates from 0-100kmph in just eight seconds.
It takes on the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLC, Volvo XC60, Jaguar E-Pace, Audi Q5 and the Lexus NX. These are mid-size SUVs in similar price ranges and have been traditional rivals for a long time.
Ex-showroom, India prices for the BMW X3 is as follows –
