The all-new BMW X2 was spotted testing and this sighting gives away a few more details despite the heavy camouflage covering the prototype. On the same lines as the X6 and the X4, the new X2 will also sport the coupe design cues. Some design elements such as the headlights, new air dams and the cladding located just beneath the grille will be retained from the concept car showcased earlier, albeit in a toned-down form.
Just like the X1, the new BMW X2 will also be underpinned by the UKL platform. Sources state that the upcoming X2 will be available with a front-wheel drive setup as a standard, and all-wheel drive will be offered as an option. Powering the car will be the same 134bhp 1.5-litre petrol that will now be mated to a new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, and the 228bhp 2.0-litre diesel from the current car. However, these may be further tuned for better performance and drivability.
BMW’s new X2 is slated to debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show in September before hitting showrooms worldwide in the first half of 2018. Stay glued to CarWale for more news on the X2 in the months to come.
