A test mule of the next generation VW Touran has been spotted testing in Europe. Basically a van version of the German automaker's famous golf hatchback, it shares much with the latter in terms of design as well as engine options.
It only seems logical there be a new Touran as the Golf was brought into its seventh generation. We expect that the car will carry over many features of the Mk7 Golf but with obvious practicality that the vehicle offers. It is expected to be underpinned by the MQB platform which means that it will share much with cars like the Skoda Octavia and the Audi A3.
Under the hood, the Touran is likely to be offered with two petrol engines with outputs ranging from 84bhp to 138bhp while the two diesels will have outputs of 104bhp and 148bhp. The petrol engines are offered with a six-speed manual with the exception of the base models while the diesels are mated to a six-speed DSG.
Volkswagen is believed to be working on an India-specific strategy which is expected to involve some models which will be specific to the sub-continent. However, the MPV segment is growing quite fast in India and is expected to have many new players making a good case for VW to bring the Touran to India.
