Toyota had launched the new gen Fortuner in the international markets last year. Ahead of its official launch in India in 2017, the third generation Fortuner test mule has been spotted for the first time in the country. The new model will get a host of new design and cosmetic upgrades.
As for dimensions of the new Fortuner, the new model measures about 90mm longer and 15mm wider than the current model, while its wheelbase and height have been shortened by about 5mm and 15mm shorter respectively. The interior in the new model is spacious and offers a premium feel. The SUV gets leather upholstery and a large infotainment system in the centre of the dashboard.
Speaking about the design element, the new Toyota Fortuner features a new slim grille design with fat chrome slat on each side. The new sleeker headlamps with projector units and LED DLRs gives it a sporty appeal. The bigger and bolder front bumpers now house round fog lamps with chrome accents. The lower roofline and LED tail lamps completes its sporty looks.
The new Fortuner is offered with two new GD diesel engine options - 2.4-litre unit and a 2.8-litre unit. The former generates about 148bhp and 400Nm of torque, while the latter generates about 177bhp and 450Nm of torque. It will come mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Toyota might also offer a 4x4 option on the new Fortuner. Though a petrol variant being offered seems unlikely for now, it is to be seen if the company will consider offering one at a later date.
