Toyota Corolla has been ruling the roost in the D-segment in the Indian market. The company had recently unveiled the new model that gets fresh cosmetic and feature upgrades over the current Altis. The new model will be introduced in international market in the coming months while the India debut is expected to be in 2017.
The new Corolla will continue to be offered with 1.8-litre four-cylinder VVT-i petrol engine that will generate about 138bhp of power and 173Nm of torque. The diesel variant will get the same 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine that generates 88bhp of power and 205Nm of torque. Apart from the regular six-speed manual transmission, the new model will also be available in optional CVT automatic with a seven-speed Tiptronic transmission for the top-end petrol trim.
On the design aspect, the new model gets redesigned headlamps with LED clusters and a redesigned bonnet, a smaller upper grille and elongated lower grille that is fused with the fog lamps. The new model will get redesigned alloys with a choice of 16 – 17-inch alloy wheels. The bumpers are also bolder and sharper than the current model. Additionally, the vehicle will also get chrome finished side door handles that enhances the overall appeal. As for the rear, the vehicle will get minor tweaks and might get LED clustered tail lamps.
Known for its safety standards, Toyota will offer a new safety pack called as ‘Toyota Safety Sense’ in the new Corolla. This system includes LDA – Lane Departure Alert, PCS – Pre-Collision System and AHB – Automatic High Beam. As for the interiors, we expect that the new model will get a few additional equipment along with revised styling.
On the pricing front, we expect that the new model will be priced between Rs 13.5 lakh - Rs 18 lakh. We are anticipating a slightly higher price as the vehicle will be India launched next year. The new Toyota Corolla loaded with fresh upgrades is expected to further witness a stronger growth in its D-segment.
