Skoda India will launch the new and updated 2017 Octavia in India tomorrow. This is the mid-life update for the third generation D-segment sedan from the Czech carmaker. We have already driven this car and you can read all about it over here.
The 2017 model year update for the Octavia gets a new fascia with sharper split headlamps and slightly revised characteristic Skoda moustache grille. The smooth flowing silhouette of the sedan with chrome surround windows on the side continues to be the forte of the sedan. At the rear, the C-shaped LED tail lamps are carried forward.
On the inside, the cabin is virtually unchanged apart from the touchscreen infotainment system. The 8.0-inch display is now bigger than the outgoing model’s 6.5-inch screen. All the bells and whistle are carried forward in the feature rich and lavish cabin of the D-segment sedan.
The new Octavia is expected to be offered across four variants and with three engine options. When launched, there will two petrol motors and one diesel engine on offer. The petrol unit is a 1.4-litre four cylinder producing 148bhp and 250Nm mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The bigger petrol engine option is a 1.8-litre unit producing 180bhp and 250Nm of torque which is coupled to a seven-speed DSG transmission. Meanwhile, the diesel option is a 2.0-litre oil burner that puts out 143bhp and 320Nm, and can be had with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed DSG transmission.
The 2017 Octavia will continue its brawl in the D-segment against the likes of Volkswagen Jetta, Hyundai Elantra and Toyota Altis. Prices are expected to be slightly higher than the current car.
