Renault Sport still continues to test the 2017 Megane RS which is due for launch on 26 May 2017. With the GT badge on the boot of the spied vehicle, Renault has attempted to disguise the Megane RS in the body of Megane GT. It is the centrally-mounted twin exhaust tip which gives away the game and points to a more powerful drivetrain than that of the GT, obviously borrowed from the Megane RS.
Renault will continue to produce the Megane RS on the same MQB platform as before, and the manufacturers have no plans to make it a three-door hatch back. It would however sport an aggressive bumper with a sharper and more aerodynamic diffuser on the rear. Other changes to the exterior is likely to include flared wheel arches with the ‘RS’ variant alloy wheels.
The 2017 Renault Megane will be powered by an in-line four, 2.0-litre turbocharged engine which is capable of producing power figures over 300bhp. The manufacturer will mate this engine to a six-speed manual transmission or an optional seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. European reports indicate that the Megane RS will not be equipped with an all-wheel-drive system and it will be a front wheel drive hot hatch. The updated Megane RS will get four-wheel-steering for precise and efficient driving.
The Renault Megane RS will rival against the 2017 Honda Civic Type-R which has recently set a new record on the Nürburgring. With the power figures offered by the Megane RS, it’s evident that Renault Sport intends to shatter the current record.
