Mercedes’ longstanding G-Class range is due for a comprehensive update next year. After 38 years into production with little exterior design changes, the G-Class will benefit from a new design. The most visible change will come in the form of a wider body.
The new G-Class will also get a wider track, electro-mechanical steering and independent suspension at front. The popular boxy silhouette and the almost upright windshield will carry over though there might be details from the 2012 Ener-G-Force concept.
Mercedes is likely to use more of lightweight materials in the construction to reduce the weight by as much as 200kg. Power, meanwhile, will come from a range of in-line 6-cylinder engines, some coupled to Merc’s new 9-speed automatic.
Now before you ask, yes, there will be AMG’s G63 that will follow after the launch of the regular G-Class range. As usual, the next G63 will have a mean looking body and a highly potent V8 motor with around 580bhp.
