Mercedes-Benz has launched the new and updated GLA-Class in India at a price of Rs 30.65 lakh (ex-showroom all-India). Introduced at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, the mid-life update for the crossover SUV comes with a cosmetic tweak and added features and equipment. The crossover from Stuttgart is available in four trims with three engine options. Let’s have a detailed look at the updated GLA through our picture gallery.
The GLA received a new lighting signature with tweaked headlamp design with the update. The redesigned bumpers up front are the most prominent changes, while the grille gets a dash of chrome.
The tail lights now get Mercedes’ signature ‘star dust’ treatment. There are now faux silver skid plates on the rear bumpers. The roof rails continue to lend the GLA the formidable crossover appearance.
The new GLA gets a newly design five-spoke 18-inch alloys as standard. With the addition of one new colour – Canyon Beige - there are now five colours options to choose from.
On the inside, the newest addition is the ambient lighting in 12 different colours with five dimming levels. There are two interior trims - Sail pattern in Sport variant and Black matrix in Style variant.
The eight-inch infotainment screen now gets smartphone integration. The instrument cluster is slightly tweaked as well. Driver aids such as hill start assist, ESP, ASR, BAS, are standard in the GLA220d 4MATIC trim.
Engine wise, the GLA continues to be powered by a petrol and diesel engine option. The transmission is a seven-speed automatic. The all-wheel drive system is available in top-spec variant only.
The 2.0-litre inline-four petrol engine, which powers the GLA220 variant, puts out 181bhp of power at 5,500rpm and 300Nm of max torque between 1,200 and 1,400rpm.
The diesel, on the other hand, is a 2.2-litre inline four available in two states of tune – 134bhp/300Nm and 168bhp/350Nm powering the GLA200d and GLA220d 4Matic respectively.
Mercedes-Benz is also offering a genuine accessory kit called the Adventure Kit which comes with sportier alloy wheels, foot pedals, bicycle stand, decals, roof rack with roof box and much more.
The Adventure Kit can be had as a whole package from the dealership as a whole. Or the individual elements of the Adventure Kit can be opted for to personalisethe crossover.
The new GLA will continue to be produced at the German carmaker’s facility in Chakan, Pune. It will also continue its fray with the BMW X1, Audi Q3 along with the Mini Countryman and newly launched Volkswagen Tiguan.
