Maruti Suzuki’s Swift hatchback is not new to the Indian market and as the name suggests, the hatchback was indeed quite responsive and a decent performer in its segment. The current lot which has been present for over five years will be replaced by a new-gen model by end of 2017 or early 2018. To make things interesting during launch, the new Swift might get the Auto Gear Shift diesel transmission which currently serves the Dzire sedan.
The 2017 Maruti Suzuki Swift will be based on the Baleno’s platform. The current AGS transmission option which serves the Dzire’s diesel variant is powered by a 1.3-litre engine which generates 74bhp of power and 190Nm of torque. Along with a regular 1.2-litre petrol engine, the new model might also get 1-litre Boosterjet petrol engine from the Baleno. It is also to be seen if the new model will get the SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) in diesel, which will further help in strengthening its position in the Indian market. As for dimensions, reports suggest that the vehicle will measure 3.84m in length and 1.74m in width.
Speaking of the design element, as seen in pictures, the new model does not look anything like the current generation model. The hatchback gets new headlamps and a new bumper design. Sloping hood and diamond cut-style alloy wheels. It will also get one large grille unit on the front. The vehicle might also get front airbags as standard owing to safety norms which will be mandatory soon. As for pricing, the AGS variant might cost around Rs 30,000 – Rs 50,000 over the regular top-spec variant pricing that will be announced at the time of launch.
