Hyundai is raising its compact vehicle game for America by introducing the Kona SUV at the 2017 LA Auto Show. It will be the smallest SUV that Hyundai will sell in the US of A and be launched there in Q1 of 2018. It is a part of larger plan by the South Korean automaker to launch eight crossover styled vehicles by 2020.
The car that was on display at the motor show is the same one that was showcased at Frankfurt 2017. You get a funky looking exterior with bits from the likes of the Elite i20, Tucson as well as the Santa Fe making up the exterior of the vehicle. In prominent attention are the slit- like head lamps, bulge on the bonnet and chunky rear-end with its many contrast coloured elements.
Where the exterior is all funky and attention seeking, the cabin is a slightly conservative space, with a majority of it inmostly done in a black shade with body colour inserts for the AC vents and gear lever, as well as steering. It is a five-seater with a folding rear section for additional storage.Â
The American market will get the Kona with either a 2.0-litre or a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder mill. You can have the former with a six-speed AT while the 1.6-litre unit is only offered with a seven-speed DCT.
We have writtenspoken in detail as to why the Kona has big potential in India and you can read about that here.Â
