The next generation of the Hyundai Verna has been leaked ahead of the official unveiling at the 2016 Chengdu Auto Show in China. This will be fifth generation for the sedan and is expected to come to the Indian market by mid-2017.
Embodying the latest of the Fluidic design philosophy, this new Verna appears to be an evolution of the current car rather than a completely new design. The face is dominated by a large wide grille while the bumper has become sportier thanks to its design which embodies the latest of its Fluidic design language. The headlamps are projectors while the LED DRLs have been integrated into the overall light assembly.
The side profile has been retained from the current car but the wheel arches have been widened and the car appears to have become a bit larger than the outgoing model. Some pictures of the China-spec cabin have also emerged indicating an evolutionary design. Elements include two-tone upholstery, climate control and a front arm rest with storage within. The touchscreen looks quite small and we believe that a larger one is expected to be an optional extra as a part of an entertainment package.
In the Indian context, this is one of the steadfast models for the automaker and had been a constant seller for them for quite a while. It is only in the last year or so that Hyundai has been seeing a drop in sales for the Verna a move thanks to the demand for SUVs/crossovers as well as the competition catching up and overtaking the car.
