At the 2016 Beijing Motors Show, Hyundai had showcased the Verna sedan in a concept form. Fresh images of the production ready model in the company warehouse have emerged and it is believed that the new model will be officially unveiled at the upcoming Chengdu motor show in China. The one to be launched in India will continue to be powered by existing engine options, while upgrades will be restricted to only design and feature upgrades.
Images indicate that the new Verna will feature a large hexagonal grille with horizontal slats. This shares some similarity with the grille featured on the recently launched Elantra in India. The upcoming sedan will now get larger wrap around cluster headlamps with LED and black accents. The sides get smooth character lines, chrome door handles and sharply designed ORVMs. The rear section features sleek wraparound tail lamps, a large boot lid and a redesigned bumper. In terms of dimension, the new sedan will measure about 4,380mm in length, 1,728mm in width, 1,460mm in height and get a wheelbase of about 2,600mm.
The China-bound Verna will be powered by 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre petrol engine options which generate about 100bhp and 123bhp of power respectively. As for India, it will continue to be powered by 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre engine options in petrol and diesel. The new model is expected to be launched in the country sometime by mid next year. More details about the vehicle will be known in the coming days.
