Ford India will launch the much awaited Ford EcoSport in India tomorrow. The new and updated crossover debuts Ford’s new Dragon petrol engine in the country with an updated exterior and an all-new interior. The compact crossover will be available with two engine options and the same five variants – Ambiente, Trend, Trend Plus, Titanium and Titanium Plus – as the outgoing car.
The new EcoSport gets a new gaping grille up front flanked by bigger and sharper projector headlamps with LED DRLs. The fog lamps are also redesigned to match the new fascia. At the back, things remain the same with subtle changes. The new EcoSport sits on bigger 17-inch alloy wheels now. On the inside, the biggest upgrade is in the form of the new infotainment system that is vertically stacked atop the dashboard. The eight-inch screen comes with Ford SYNC3 system along with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The steering wheel is all-new as well while the entire cabin is noticeably fresh after the update.
Powering the new EcoSport will be 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines. The petrol is a newly developed three-cylinder Dragon engine with 123bhp and 150Nm of torque. The oil burner, on the other hand, is the same four-cylinder turbodiesel which develops 99bhp and 205Nm. The transmission option is a five-speed manual as standard, while the petrol variant gets an optional six-speed automatic.
When launched, the new EcoSport will continue its fray with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Honda WR-V, Mahindra TUV300 and the Tata Nexon. The prices for the facelifted EcoSport will be slightly higher than the current car. We expect the pricing to be between Rs 7-11 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).
