2017 Ford EcoSport launched in India at Rs 7.31 lakhs

The 2017 Ford EcoSport has been launched in India at Rs 7.31 lakhs (All-India ex-showroom). This is an updated version of the American automaker’s compact SUV and is the most comprehensive change made to it since it was launched in 2013. The car is being offered in five petrol and diesel variants and across seven colour options including a new shade blue which is the launch colour of the car. 

The major change to the car’s exterior is a completely new face. The grille is in line with Ford’s latest design while the head lamps have become smaller with a wedge-like shape that sit on the outer edges of the face. This combination has given the EcoSport a mean and purposeful look in terms of appearance. The car now comes fitted with new 17-inch wheels and the increase in size is quite noticeable in the overall appearance. There are no changes in the rear of the vehicle, but if you look closely, the bigger wheel size does enhance the appearance. 

The cabin retains the same layout and elements, but it now gets a massive touchscreen infotainment system with SYNC3 technology. Also adding to the new elements is a slightly revised steering wheel as well as new instrument cluster.

Powering this 2017 EcoSport is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel as well as a new 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol mill. The diesel produces 98bhp/205Nm while the petrol is good for 121bhp/150Nm. It’s a five-speed manual doing duty in both cars while the petrol can also be had with a six-speed AT. There is no word on the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine for this 2017 MY vehicle but is likely to show up sometime next year. 

The EcoSport competes with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Honda WR-V, Tata Nexon and the Mahindra TUV300 in the compact SUV segment.
