At the Finali Mondiali event in Daytona, Italian sports carmaker Ferrari unveiled the 2017-spec 488 Challenge. The vehicle in its sixth edition will participate at the Ferrari Challenge series which coincidentally also celebrates its 25th anniversary next year. The latest beast from Ferrari will replace the older 458 Challenge EVO.
To make it further interesting, for the first time in the series’ history, the 3.9-litre V-8 engine in the 488 Challenge gets turbochargers. Moreover for best racing performance, the vehicle gets shorter gear ratios. Additionally, it also comes with Slip Control (SSC) software which has been integrated into the vehicle’s electronic dynamic controls and is calibrated, along with the traction control and E-Diff3. This helps in offering maximum traction when corning, turning and accelerating out of corners. The company also claims that the 488 Challenge is about a second faster than the 458 Challenge EVO.
The front fascia sports a new bonnet with triple vents and integrated flaps for increased airflow and taking the radiator heat rearwards, the new bumper gets more pronounced splitters and flicks to help increase downforce and also help balance the rear load. The engine section gets lateral air intakes which are positioned under the rear spoiler for maximum cooling. The intake on the rear flanks allow ample air to cool the rear brakes and also help with improved downforce. More details about the vehicle will be known in the coming days.
