Along with a host of interesting features built for convenience, the new BMW 5 Series has also scored a full five-star rating in Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme). The new BMW 520d was used for test and performed impressively in crash protection and avoidance test. Based on a new platform, the new 5 Series scored 81 per cent overall.
Along with a rigid construction, the new 5 Series from BMW also gets autonomous braking system and multiple airbags. In the adult occupant test, the new 520d has reportedly scored 91 per cent safety points which consisted of 6.3 points in front offset deformable barrier, seven points in frontal full width, 15.8 points in lateral impact and 2.7 points in whiplash rear impact and 3 points in AEB (Auto Emergency Braking) in the urban environment.
Under the child occupant protection test, the 5 Series scored 85 per cent in front and lateral impact. Overall it scored 59 per cent which includes 1.5 point for Speed Assistance, 3 points for seat belt reminder and 2.6 points for AEB Interurban, which helps by alerting the driver and also assists in stopping the car in case of a head on collision situation.
In India, we will get the 5 Series in three models - 520i, 520d and the 530d. The new 5 Series gets most of its design cues from the 7 Series. Along with improved upholstery, the interior will soon feature a bigger screen compared to the current generation model along with a gesture control function. The vehicle is expected to be offered with a variety of customization options when introduced in the country.
