Whenever a premium carmaker unveils a full-size luxury sedan, one can expect it to come with a long wheelbase model designed specifically for China. That’s exactly the sort of thing that’s happening with the 2017 5 Series.
A long wheelbase model based on the new 5 was recently spotted on test in China. To be called the 5Li, this more spacious iteration will be out in the first quarter of 2017. The car of course will have its wheelbase extended by around 10cm and as a result, will feature a different roofline post the B-pillar.
The 2017 5Li will be made by the Brilliance-BMW joint venture. It will be offered with a range of petrol engines with four, six and even eight cylinder configurations. When launched, the 5Li will compete with other stretched luxury sedans namely the Mercedes E-Class L, Audi A6 L and the upcoming Volvo S90 L.
