A brand new 5 Series has been imported from Germany and we believe it is the seventh-generation 2017 5 Series. That is because the BMW 5 Series is already being built in India and yet BMW has imported one within a month of its global reveal.
The 2017 BMW 5 series must have been brought to India as a part of their global testing procedures or for India-specific testing and homologation. BMW has imported the 520d limousine, the highest selling variant of the 5 Series in India. The 520d gets the 1995cc B47 turbocharged four cylinder diesel engine that develops 190bhp of power and 400Nm of torque and comes mated to an eight-speed automatic torque converter gearbox.
The new 2017 5 Series has been built on the same OKL platform as the flagship 7 Series, infused with carbon-fibre reinforced polymer, magnesium, aluminium and high-strength steel to make it light and still have the required rigidity. It also gets the latest sixth-generation BMW iDrive with gesture controls and the electrical system has been upgraded to a 48V system just like its German counterpart – Mercedes.
The looks and styling of the new 5 Series are almost the same albeit a bit sharper and the insides are have more space. With the testing procedures on, we expect the India launch of the 2017 5 Series to follow the international launch i.e. in the first half of 2017.
