2017 BMW 5 Series gets digitally rendered

The next generation of the BMW 5 Series has been digitally rendered by Top Speed. It looks like the future model of the executive sedan will adopt an evolutionary look, with a wider stance and muscular looking front end.

The new 5 Series will be based on the 35up platform that also underpins the new 7 Series. By adopting this new architecture, BMW is said to benefit from up to 100 kilograms of weight reduction.

In terms of powertrain options, the new 5 Series will be offered with a vast variety of petrol, diesel and hybrid engines. There could even be a 3-cylinder, 1.5-litre turbo engine for the executive sedan. The M5, on the other hand, will continue with the 4.4-litre twin turbocharged V8 with around 630bhp of power.

Expect the new 5 Series to go on sale sometime next year. Once launched, BMW will be pitting it against the usual set of rivals including the Mercedes E-Class, Audi A6 and the Jaguar XF.
