First it was Bentley Bentayga and now it’s the 2016 Volvo S90 which has been unofficially revealed through a Chinese scale model. This car will replace the S80 range of vehicles in the Swedish automaker’s current lineup.
Influenced heavily by the Concept Coupe, the Volvo S90 gets the seatbelt grille and headlamps shaped like Thor's hammer (Mjolnir). The bumper is a bit saner than the concept car had but still looks aggressive thanks to the overall stance of the car.
The side profile looks more fastback than sedan thanks the flowing roofline, flared wheel arches and forward leaning stance. At the rear, Volvo has fitted wrap-around tail lamps but has kept it relatively chrome free which gives the car a sporty appeal more than a luxurious vehicle.
The car is underpinned by the same Scalable Product Architecture found in the XC90. This means this car will get the same engines, gearboxes as well as cabin design and trim levels as the SUV.
Expect an unveiling early next year and launch by the middle of 2016. Since, the Indian market, gets its Volvos through the CBU route, we should get this car within a few months of its global launch. This reveal should come as no surprise considering most of the auto majors source their scale model work to manufacturers in China.
