The upcoming Toyota Innova is due for an official unveiling on November 23, in Indonesia. The manufacturer has released a teaser of the next-gen Innova hinting at its imminent launch.
This, the 2016 iteration of the Innova, will be a completely new one based on the TNGA platform. The fascia sports a two slat grille and sweptback headlamps, a little similar to the design language of the new Corolla. The headlights are projector units with the addition of DRLs. The changes at the back are also in line with the new design philosophy. The car will also get a new design pattern for the alloy wheels in this new version.
We can expect a beige and black theme inside the cabin, with beige in the centre and on the doors as well. The interior will boast of a new twin-pod instrument cluster, multi-function display, climate control system and touch screen audio system.
The new Innnova will be offered with both petrol and diesel engine options. The current 2.5-litre diesel mill churns out 100bhp of power and 200Nm of torque, while the 2.0-litre four-pot petrol motor produces 130bhp of power and 181Nm of torque. These engines come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox transferring the power to the rear wheels. Knowing the current Indian consumer preferences, Toyota might offer the new Innova with an automatic option as well.
It is after 10 years now that we will see a completely new Toyota Innova. The car has already been spotted testing outside Bengaluru on multiple occasions. We can expect the manufacturer to bring the car to the 2016 Auto Expo and later launch it for the Indian market in late 2016. It will continue the current price range right up to the Z-spec variant. It will rival the Renault Lodgy and the Mahindra Xylo in the premium MPV category.
