The test mules of the 2016 Toyota Innova have been making frequent appearances in Karnataka and the numbers of pictures have started bucketing in a lot. This time a test mule was spotted testing on the Mysore Ring Road around the manufacturing facility.
The next-gen Innova seems longer than the current model but has the same height and width. The external looks of the new Innova are expected to be in line with the manufacturer's new design language. Expected to borrow design cues from the new Corolla Altis, the car will get a revised grille, redesigned headlamps and tweaked bumpers. The tail lamps are expected to be horizontally placed this time, unlike the ones on the current Innova.
Earlier, we have also seen pictures of the cabin which show that the company will tweak the interior as well. The layout of the dashboard is slightly revised with some tweaks to the instrument cluster as well. The biggest change will be the upgrade in the quality of materials to keep up with the competition. The Innova will feature the new three-spoke steering wheel, which looks similar to the one on the new Corolla and comes equipped with steering mounted controls. Additionally, the top-end version will come with a large TFT display screen.
Expected to get the same powertrain that the present Innova has, the petrol version of the 2016 model will be powered by the 2.0-litre mill that churns out 130bhp of power. The diesel model will be powered by the 2.5-litre mill that produces 100bhp of power. Both these engine options will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission, with the power sent to the rear wheels. Speculations are that an automatic variant will also be available when it goes on sale.
Currently, the Toyota Innova is the leader in the MPV segment of vehicles in India. It was first launched here in 2005 and has tasted a fair bit of success since then. It has been quite some time now that the company has not refreshed the vehicle and 2016 is when we can expect the revised Innova to be launched for the Indian market.
