Toyota has been testing the 2016 model of the Innova in India. We have seen test mules of the revamped vehicle and another one was sighted giving some more details about the interior.
This picture proves that the cabin of the new Innova will be upgraded to keep up with the competition. The most evident change is the new three-spoke steering wheel. It looks similar to the one on the new Corolla and comes equipped with steering mounted controls. Another change is the large TFT display screen that might come only on the top-end version of the Innova. The layout of the dashboard is slightly revised with some tweaks to the instrument cluster as well. The quality of materials used this time, is expected to be of high quality giving the interior a more premium feel than the present model.
Coming to the external appearance, the looks of the Innova will also be revised and be in line with the manufacturer's new design language. The car will borrow design cues from the new Corolla Altis and get a revised grille, redesigned headlamps and tweaked bumpers. The tail lamps are expected to be horizontally placed this time unlike the ones on the current Innova.
The 2016 Innova is expected to get the same powertrain that the present Innova has. This means, the petrol version will be powered by the 130bhp 2.0-litre engine, while the oil-burner will employ the 100bhp 2.5-litre mill. Both these engine options come mated to a five-speed manual transmission and the power is sent to the rear wheels. However, the carmaker might add an automatic variant to their line-up.
The Toyota Innova was first introduced to the Indian market in 2005 and has been doing considerably well since then. In fact, the vehicle is currently the leader in the MPV segment of vehicles in India. Though the advent of new MPVs in our country might not affect the sales of the Innova, the Japanese carmaker has considered the importance of refreshing its cars and will launch the revamped Innova in 2016.
