About a decade ago India got its favourite MPV – the Toyota Innova, though it is now due to be replaced with a new model. While we have been getting images of camouflaged test mules of the 2016 Innova, a solo image of a production ready model has been leaked on the internet.
By the looks of it, the 2016 model retains the van- like shape of the outgoing model but it does get a more than decent styling upgrade. The front looks radical with a large hexagonal grille taking centre-stage. The grille with twin chrome slats and the black base is surrounded by projector equipped headlamps. Although, it is not clearly evident but the fog lamps seem to be a lot bigger than usual for an MPV. The new Innova gets some prominent characters lines to make it look attractive. The front wheel arch looks muscular with a strong crease line that runs all the way through the waistline of the vehicle. There is another crease line that seems to have emerged from the tail lamps and ends at the front door. And the wheel arches at the rear carry forward the muscular theme.
The 2016 Innova like the outgoing model will be based on a ladder frame chassis .It will also get increased space inside the cabin and higher levels of equipment. There is no news around the powertrains, but we believe it will continue to be powered by the same 2.5-litre D-4D diesel mill with more power. Toyota might add an automatic gearbox as that has seen some success in the Fortuner and the could help them with economies of scale.
We expect the Japanese carmaker to unveil the new Innova at the 2016 Auto Expo. Also expect the company to position it higher than the outgoing model which will also warrant an increase in price. Watch this space for more on the 2016 Toyota Innova.
